Artist You Should Know: Xavier Omär
During my hiatus, I didn’t listen to any upcoming artist. I was beginning to believe that my favorite genre R&B was becoming homogenized. During my path to rediscovery, I decided to set aside my biased views towards the newer artists. One artists in particular that I wish I would’ve stumbled upon years prior was San Antonio singer Xavier Omär. Omar is no stranger to the music industry. Since 2012, Omär started under the moniker SPZRKT (pronounced Spazzy Rocket) with contemporary Christian and R&B songs. With a string of EP’s from 2012-2019, Omär released his debu studio album in October 2019; Moments Spent Loving You with burgeoning producer Sango.
What makes this album stand out is Omär’s vocals. I could tell that his vocal tutelage began in the church. Sango’s production blends perfectly with Omär’s vocals without overshadowing. This album is for the loves truck and for anyone dealing with the highs and lows of relationships. The track Deep End showcases vulnerability; a topic we don’t hear that often in R&B these days. I know I’m late to the Xaviar Omär party, but I haven’t heard an artist this refreshing in a while. Based on his body of work he’s here to stay.
